Linsey Boyd, a waitress in Michigan, was fired after receiving a $10,000 tip on a $32.43 bill at the Mason Jar Cafe, and even though she generously shared the money with eight coworkers, the restaurant insisted the dismissal was a ‘business decision’ unrelated to the tip. The cafe’s owners, Able Martinez and Jayme Cousins, referenced ‘labor laws’ as the reason for being unable to disclose the details of Boyd’s termination due to the $10,000 tip. However, Boyd revealed that she lost her job because the massive tip caused ‘all of the drama, animosity, and hurt’ to ensuring at the restaurant, highlighting the negative impact of what was supposed to be a heartwarming experience.

Boyd explained in a now-deleted Facebook post that the drama ensued after an anonymous customer left behind the $10,000 tip to honor a recently departed friend. The middle-aged man wished to spread some cheer through the generous gratuity and specifically requested Boyd to share the tip with her colleagues. Despite the generosity of this act, rumors have circulated suggesting that the staff who were not working on the day of the tip expected to receive a share, creating an extremely dramatic work environment. As a result, Boyd found herself without a job for the first time in years.

In response, social media users expressed outrage, leaving negative reviews for the Mason Jar Cafe and voicing support for Boyd, condemning the restaurant’s decision to fire her. The cafe’s owners, however, have maintained that Boyd’s termination was a purely business-oriented decision and not influenced by the $10,000 tip. The social media backlash, along with the conflicting accounts of Boyd’s termination, have turned what was initially a heartwarming act of generosity into a negative and contentious situation.
