Minecraft Ends PSVR Support after March

Date:

People who enjoy immersing themselves in the block-filled, creeper-infested universe of Minecraft in virtual reality will no longer be able to do so on PlayStation VR. Developer Mojang is terminating support for this platform.

"Our ability to support PlayStation VR has come to an end, and it will no longer be included in updates after March 2025," Mojang stated in the most recent Minecraft patch notes, as reported by Eurogamer. This means that the latest updates will no longer support PlayStation VR, thereby discontinuing its use with Minecraft.

Mojang initially added PSVR support as an update to the PS4 version of Minecraft in 2020. However, there has yet to be a comparable update for PS5 and PS VR2. The studio confirmed that it will continue to update Minecraft on PS4, stating, "From this point on, you can keep building in your worlds, and your Marketplace purchases (including Tokens) will remain available." Nonetheless, for those who wish to continue playing Minecraft on PSVR, the headset can still be used to display PS4 games on a virtual 2D screen.

It is not uncommon for games that receive constant updates to phase out support on older platforms, especially as the user base diminishes. It is often unsustainable for studios to keep updating titles for a declining audience. However, the termination of Minecraft support on PSVR is notable, particularly because it is the best-selling game of all time. Despite this change, a new avenue for experiencing the Minecraft universe is on the horizon, with a movie based on the game scheduled for release in April.
