Universal recently announced a series of live-action Lego movies, with directors Patty Jenkins, Joe Cornish, and Jake Kasdan each heading one project. However, new information has surfaced indicating that there are actually four live-action Lego movies currently in development, rather than the initially reported three.
Among these is a live-action adaptation of Lego’s popular Ninjago toy line. While a director for this project has not yet been revealed, Kevin and Dan Hageman, known for creating and executive producing the first nine seasons of the Ninjago CGI series, have been selected to write the script. Details about the plot are still under wraps.
Ninjago debuted in 2011 and follows a team of ninjas, each possessing unique elemental powers such as fire, ice, and earth, as well as one character rumored to be a robot. These ninjas are trained in “spinjitzu” and defend their city from various threats, including Lord Garmadon, time-traveling elemental masters, and biker gangs. Despite the continued popularity of both the toy line and the animated series, the previous animated Ninjago film, which was the brand’s first theatrical release, did not perform well at the box office when released by Warner Bros.
The anticipation for how these new live-action Lego movies, including Ninjago, will be received remains high.
