The lineup for the Annecy Festival, scheduled from June 8 to 15, has been unveiled, featuring a variety of animated works from major global studios. Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros. Animation, DreamWorks, and Sony Animation are among the prominent participants set to make an impact with projects from popular franchises such as Star Wars, Stranger Things, Marvel, and DC.
Warner Bros.’ Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe presented the Annecy trailer with Bugs Bunny in traditional 2D animation. The short advertisement, directed by Grant Orchard and executive produced by Ben Bocquelet, featured Eric Bauza as the voice of Bugs Bunny. The presentation has generated considerable excitement for the international event and hope for more appearances by Looney Tunes characters in the ceremonies.
The festival will also showcase various anticipated titles. “Star Wars: Visions” will offer fans a glimpse of season three, which is expected in October and is developed by Japanese animation houses. The focus will be on the short “Black,” directed by Shinya Ohira.
Pixar Animation Studios will feature a presentation by CCO Pete Docter, including previews of upcoming projects such as Elio, Hoppers, and Toy Story 5. The 30th anniversary of Toy Story will also be acknowledged with special behind-the-scenes content.
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ CCO Jared Bush will make his Annecy debut with a preview of Zootopia 2. Meanwhile, Marvel Animation will conduct a “making-of session” with an exclusive screening of the initial episodes of the series Eyes of Wakanda, set to debut on Disney+ in August.
The festival will honor creators of The Simpsons, including Matt Groening, Matt Selman, and David Silverman, celebrating the show’s contribution to animated arts.
WB Animation will spotlight Merry Little Batman with insights into Bat-Fam adventures, while Cartoon Network Studios will commemorate its 25th anniversary with a discussion featuring key creators of its classic shows.
Netflix Animation will offer previews of Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 and In Your Dreams. An adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm, directed by Andy Serkis, will also debut at the festival.
The event will feature a collaboration between Naruto and Oasis for an animated film celebrating manga culture. Additionally, Sony Animation will present Tyree Dillihay and Adam Rosette’s all-animal sports feature Goat, and DreamWorks will debut The Bad Guys 2.
