Blade Runner Game Project Canceled

Date:

A game titled Time to Live, based on the Blade Runner universe, was once under development but never officially announced. Presently, only a few details about the potential project remain.

According to Insider Gaming, the game was in development at Supermassive Games, known for their work on Until Dawn. It was described as a character-focused action-adventure game where players would assume the role of So-Lange, the only Blade Runner in 2065 who had outlived their typical lifespan.

Reportedly, pre-production began in late 2024 with several team members from the 2023 game The Quarry involved. If Supermassive Games had moved into full production, the title was aimed for a fall 2027 release across PC and both current and next-generation consoles. Documentation obtained by the outlet suggested gameplay would have included elements of stealth, action, exploration, and investigation, akin to games like Cyberpunk 2077 or the Deus Ex series.

The project Time to Live was allegedly canceled by Alcon Entertainment, the intellectual property owner. This decision was purportedly made late last year, though no specific reason was provided. When approached for comment, Supermassive Games informed Insider Gaming that they were “unable to comment.” Alcon, when contacted by io9, mentioned there were “discussions” regarding a Blade Runner project last year, which did not continue due to business considerations.

To date, three official Blade Runner video games have been released. These include a 1985 shoot-em-up loosely based on the film, a 1997 point-and-click adventure, and the 2018 VR title Revelations from Seismic Games. Currently, Annapurna Interactive had announced the development of Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, which was their first in-house game. However, the status of this game is uncertain following the company’s internal issues in late 2024.

Regardless of whether Time to Live ever existed, the Blade Runner franchise has seen gradual expansion over recent years. In addition to video games, Prime Video has announced an upcoming television series starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer.
