The BSE Sensex, comprising 30 shares, fell 588 points, or 0.74%, closing at 79,212. Meanwhile, the broader NSE Nifty decreased by 207 points, or 0.86%, ending at 24,039. During the trading session, the Sensex saw a drop of up to 1,525 points from its intraday high, while the Nifty lost 518 points from its peak.
