Mid America Pet Foods, at the center of a Salmonella outbreak, has recently expanded their voluntary recall to include additional pet food products made at their Mount Pleasant plant in Texas. The recall covers various dog and cat foods with Best By dates before 10/31/24, including popular brands such as Victor Super Premium, Wayne Feeds, and Member’s Mark. The pet food was distributed to retailers nationwide, prompting the company to expand the recall to include all bag sizes of the affected brands.
If you have any of the recalled pet food at home, it should be placed in a secure container and thrown away. Make sure to clean and disinfect all pet supplies and any areas where the food was located or where your pet may have had contact. Additionally, be on the lookout for signs of infection in both humans and pets, and contact a healthcare provider or vet immediately if you suspect symptoms of salmonella.
The outbreak is being investigated and has been linked to seven human cases of salmonella infection, six of which were in children under the age of one. While one person was hospitalized, no deaths have been reported. The investigation is still ongoing, and if you have any of the recalled pet food, be sure to dispose of it safely and monitor your health and the health of your pets for any symptoms.
