Federal inspectors have announced a recall of approximately 22,672 pounds of Johnsonville cheddar bratwurst distributed to ten states after consumers reportedly discovered hard plastic in the product. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the bratwurst was manufactured by Johnsonville in Momence, Illinois, on February 5, 2025.
The specific product recalled includes 19-ounce, sealed tray packages containing five pieces of Johnsonville Bacon Cheddar Bratwurst, marked with the package code “B9FOD” and bearing the establishment number “Est. 1647.” The products were shipped to retail locations in Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The issue came to light after Johnsonville reported receiving two consumer complaints about the presence of hard plastic in the bratwurst. At the time of the recall, no injuries had been confirmed from the consumption of these bratwursts. The FSIS has advised individuals who may have health concerns to consult their healthcare providers.
Consumers in possession of the recalled bratwursts are urged to dispose of them or return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund or replacement.
