The Blue Origin rocket, carrying Katy Perry and a historic all-female crew, landed safely after a roughly 10-minute flight on Monday. This spaceflight marked a significant achievement as pop star Katy Perry reached the edge of space alongside Lauren Sánchez, Gayle King, and three other women during an 11-minute journey on a Blue Origin mission.
However, the event prompted an unexpected response from the fast-food chain Wendy’s, which made a cheeky remark on social media soon after Perry’s successful return. In a post from Pop Crave celebrating Perry’s achievement, Wendy’s official account commented, “Can we send her back?” Later, they also humorously referenced Perry’s famous song, “I Kissed a Girl.”
These comments sparked backlash on social media, with fans criticizing Wendy’s for its remarks, which deviated from its usual playful jabs at competitor chains. By Thursday, it was reported that Wendy’s had an opportunity to retract its statements. Instead, the company chose not to apologize, with a spokesperson stating to People, “We always bring a little spice to our socials, but Wendy’s has a ton of respect for Katy Perry and her out-of-this-world talent.”
Despite this, some viewed the comments as inappropriate. A source mentioned that the post was not just a joke but a corporate choice, adding that such public comments by billion-dollar brands could be considered irresponsible.
Lauren Sánchez, one of Perry’s fellow space travelers, responded by expressing her disappointment with Wendy’s remarks. She offered to provide Wendy’s with a tour of Blue Origin to demonstrate the significance of the mission and the dedication of its employees.
As of now, Wendy’s has not issued further statements regarding the incident and did not respond to FOX Business’ request for comment.
