Parts of Massachusetts are experiencing significant snowfall from the latest storm, with some areas reporting more than half a foot of snow. New Ipswich, New Hampshire has seen the most snow with close to nine inches, while other areas like Ashby, Ashburnham, and Sterling have received seven to eight inches. Worcester experienced almost five inches of snow, with higher totals expected north and west of 495 due to colder air and elevation. However, areas between 495 and 128, as well as close to the coastline, had lower amounts of snow, with some spots seeing just 2 to 4 inches. Massachusetts has mainly seen rain, but is expected to transition to ocean effect snow showers producing a coating to an inch of snow through the day and into the night, especially in locations with persisting wind gusts.
In the wake of the storm, a few communities in Massachusetts have reported several inches of snowfall. As of 8:12 a.m., the National Weather Service recorded snowfall in different counties throughout the state, including Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Worcester. For instance, Ashby in Middlesex County received 8.3 inches of snow, while other areas in the same county like Pepperell and Groton received 5.6 inches and 5.5 inches, respectively. Worcester County also saw significant snowfall in towns such as Ashburnham, Lunenburg, Petersham, and Hubbardston, all receiving over 5 inches of snow.
Despite the tapering off of the storm, Massachusetts is expected to see additional ocean effect snow showers that may result in a coating to an inch of snow, particularly for the regions experiencing persistent winds. Temperatures are expected to hover just above freezing, with the potential for snow showers to develop during the day. However, as the sun goes down, there is the possibility of a freeze leading to slick spots. Tomorrow is predicted to be cold, with temperatures struggling to reach the upper 20s to around 30 degrees. Nevertheless, a quiet stretch is anticipated for a few days as high pressure is projected to suppress any storminess through the middle of the week, with a potential for moderation in temperatures towards the end of the week.
