Nearly 138,000 platform beds sold by major retailers, including Amazon and Walmart, are being recalled in the U.S. and Canada due to potential collapse risks, posing fall and injury hazards. Utah-based importer CVB Inc. announced the recall of Lucid-branded platform beds with upholstered square tufted headboards. Notices from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada state that the beds can sag, break, or collapse during use.
To date, 245 incidents of these beds collapsing have been reported in the U.S., resulting in 18 injuries such as contusions and bruises. In Canada, there have been 11 reports of bed failures, though no injuries have been reported.
Individuals possessing the recalled beds are advised to stop using them immediately and contact Lucid for a free replacement frame. The recalled beds, which were manufactured between 2019 and 2021, continued to be sold through April 2024 at major retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, eBay, Home Depot, Macys, Target.com, Wayfair, and others.
Approximately 137,000 units were sold in the U.S. and 890 in Canada, according to the CPSC. The beds, available in twin, full, queen, king, and cal-king sizes, can be identified by a white law label on the back of the headboard, which indicates “Made For: CVB INC, 1525 W 2960 S, LOGAN, UT 84321.”
Consumers are instructed to write “recalled” on the bed’s support rails with a permanent marker and send photos to Lucid for verification. Additional information about securing a replacement can be found on Lucid’s recall page.
