Date:

Barron’s associate editors Andrew Bary and Al Root, alongside senior writer Elizabeth O’Brien, engaged in a discussion on various market topics, including luxury stocks and the Boeing strike, during a segment on “Barron’s Roundtable.”

On Thursday, high-performance car manufacturer Ferrari unveiled the F80, marking the company’s first new supercar in over a decade. This model has already sold out. The Italian luxury sports car maker announced that the F80 will incorporate elements from Endurance motor racing and Formula 1. Ferrari plans to produce only 799 units of this special edition, each carrying a base price of $3.9 million.

The F80 is equipped with a six-cylinder, three-liter full-hybrid engine that generates a total of 1,200 horsepower. It also features racing brake pads, advanced active suspension, and ultralight 3D-printed metal parts, including suspension arms.

During its unveiling in Maranello, Ferrari’s Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, Enrico Galliera, described the F80 as the vehicle that elevates their product range. Galliera expressed hopes that the car would make history in the coming years.

Ferrari’s supercars represent the pinnacle of the brand’s offerings and are introduced approximately once every ten years, showcasing cutting-edge technological advancements. The most recent supercar before the F80 was the LaFerrari, released in 2013, followed by its open-top variant, the LaFerrari Aperta, in 2016. The brand’s inaugural supercar was the GTO, launched four decades ago.

Despite being a new release, the F80’s engine is based on the architecture Ferrari employs in the World Endurance Championship, where the company claimed victory in the last two editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It also utilizes technologies from Formula 1. The F80 can reach a top speed of 350 kph, or approximately 217 mph.
