The Israeli embassy in London became a target of a terror plot involving Iranian nationals, who were apprehended by British counterterrorism police on Saturday, as reported by sources familiar with the investigation.
Five Iranians were arrested during coordinated operations across England, alongside three others detained in London in a separate action.
While UK authorities initially withheld information regarding the suspects’ target, the Metropolitan Police mentioned on Sunday that the investigation pertained to "a suspected plot to target specific premises."
Sources disclosed on Wednesday that the five individuals apprehended in England were suspected members of a cell reportedly in the final stages of planning an attack on the Israeli embassy in Kensington, west London.
It was suggested that the suspects were potentially mere hours from executing their plans when law enforcement intervened.
Security Minister Dan Jarvis described the arrests on Tuesday as "some of the largest counterterrorism actions that we have seen in recent times."
The Israeli embassy in London declined to comment.
