A woman from Florida recently gained attention on social media after she performed a blessing ritual on two airplanes she traveled on. Desiree Salter posted a video on TikTok on February 15, which shows her blessing a JetBlue plane bound for Punta Cana with oil as she boarded. In the video, she is seen making the sign of the cross with the oil near the plane’s entrance and captioned the post with “In Jesus name we pray… AMEN!” This video has amassed over 6 million views, sparking diverse reactions from viewers, both supporters and skeptics.
One viewer commented that the blessing made them feel safer, while another noted the fine line between faith and fear. Following the viral response to her video, Salter uploaded another video answering frequent questions from viewers. She explained that the blessed oil she used was from her church, where her stepfather, who is a pastor, prayed over it before distributing it to the congregation. Salter mentioned keeping the oil at home and in her purse, using it before the flight to ensure passengers’ safety amid recent aviation incidents. Salter expressed gratitude, believing that divine intervention kept them safe.
On February 20, Salter repeated the blessing ritual on her return flight to Florida from Punta Cana. JetBlue has not commented on the incident. The videos emerged after several aviation accidents in recent weeks, including a fatal collision involving American Airlines Flight 5342 and a U.S. Army helicopter on January 29, a medical jet crash in Philadelphia on January 31, and a commuter plane crash in Alaska on February 6. Additionally, on February 17, Delta Connection Flight 4819 crashed upon landing at Toronto Pearson Airport, resulting in injuries but no fatalities.
