In a late Friday email, X CEO Linda Yaccarino announced the introduction of a new "video tab" feature, described as having a TikTok-style endless scroll, according to an insider from X. Additionally, the email revealed the launch of an X-exclusive reality series titled The Offseason, which stars soccer player Midge Purce and is produced by investor Alexis Ohanian.
This development follows a recent gathering of X partners and clients at the company’s New York office earlier that week. During this period, Yaccarino has been focused on retaining advertisers and content creators, crucial to the platform but increasingly departing due to the conduct of its owner, Elon Musk.
Yaccarino further mentioned that Purce and Ohanian visited the office to discuss the forthcoming premiere of The Offseason, scheduled to go live on October 18. X has been engaging in content deals with creators like MrBeast and celebrities such as Don Lemon, who is currently pursuing legal action against Musk following the cancellation of his show. These moves aim to bolster X’s shift towards video content and to compete with YouTube as a video-hosting platform.
The Offseason is produced in collaboration with reality TV producer Alex Baskin (known for Vanderpump Rules) and Box to Box Films (Drive to Survive), alongside Ohanian, as reported by Variety. The show features 11 national women’s soccer league players during their off-season, capturing their experiences while living together in Miami for two weeks, providing an "uncensored access to their personal stories, interpersonal relationships, and on-field journey."
Ohanian and Yaccarino have also promoted Ohanian’s women’s track event, Athlos, indicating that it will be streamed live from New York City on X.
