Apple’s augmented reality glasses may be discontinued or temporarily halted, though reports suggest the company is still developing a different type of smart glasses. According to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter at Bloomberg, relayed by 9to5Mac, Apple is progressing on these glasses merely months after another Bloomberg report stated that Apple’s AR glasses would not be moving forward. Gurman indicates that the current project resembles Meta’s collaboration with Ray-Ban, incorporating advanced technology without fully offering augmented reality displays.
These glasses, as per Gurman, will utilize Apple Intelligence to potentially analyze the surrounding environment and provide information to the wearer. However, the extent of these capabilities is not yet determined. Unlike Meta’s version, which focuses on influencer-driven photography and live-streaming, Apple is reportedly hesitant to incorporate photography features due to privacy concerns.
It may take a few years before any tangible product emerges, if it materializes at all, leaving the future of smart glasses uncertain.
