The animation industry, in collaboration with ASIFA-Hollywood, has initiated AnimAID and is conducting a fundraising auction at Sotheby’s to support those in the industry affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles. Major studios such as The Walt Disney Company, Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks Animation, and LAIKA have contributed a variety of rare and unique animation art pieces for auction.
This online auction, which commenced this week, aims to assist artists and professionals within the animation sector who have experienced displacement or loss of homes due to the fires, as the Los Angeles community strives to rebuild. Animation producer Don Hahn, known for works such as “Beauty and The Beast” and “Howard,” addressed the initiative on Instagram, highlighting the unity within the animation community in response to the disaster and emphasizing that proceeds from the auction will benefit victims of the LA fires through AnimAID.
The collection being auctioned spans over 90 years and includes works from iconic films and series like “Snow White,” “The Simpsons,” “Inside Out,” “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” “The Wild Robot,” “Beauty and The Beast,” and “Avatar.” Hahn emphasized the significance of every bid in aiding individuals to reconstruct their homes and lives.
The exhibition features ongoing bidding for an array of items, such as film industry artist commissions, studio tours, signed posters, original production drawings, and animation cells. Further details and information about the live auction can be found on Sotheby’s website.
