Caution: BMW Wireless Charging may damage iPhone 15’s Apple Pay chip.

Owners of the iPhone 15 who also drive a BMW should be cautious when using their vehicle’s wireless charging pad to charge their device. Reports have surfaced that some BMW owners have experienced issues with the NFC chip in their iPhone 15 after charging it with the car’s wireless charging pad. Affected users have noticed that their iPhone goes into a data recovery mode with a white screen, and the NFC chip stops functioning after a reboot. The NFC chip powers features like Apple Pay and digital car keys, so this issue has rendered those features useless for affected customers. Apple has yet to provide a permanent solution for this problem, and it is unclear how many individuals have been impacted.

It is recommended that all iPhone 15 owners exercise caution when using their vehicle’s wireless charging pad, as it is uncertain whether this issue is limited to specific BMW models or if it affects all iPhone 15 models. Apple has not provided any information on the cause of the issue or the number of affected customers. Some individuals have received replacements for their iPhones, only to find that the new device is also susceptible to the same problem. Apple has been reached out to for comment, and further updates will be provided if a response is received.

In unrelated news, Apple is rumored to be making significant changes to its fourth-generation iPhone SE, with an expected new design and hardware. Additionally, the next generation of CarPlay is expected to launch later this year, with features like deeper integration with vehicle functions and support for multiple displays. The iOS 17.1 beta has also been released, introducing new features and improvements such as the ability to favorite songs in Apple Music. There have also been reports of overheating concerns with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and Apple plans to address this issue with an upcoming iOS 17 update. Some USB-C power banks have also been found to be incompatible with the iPhone 15, leading to charging issues. Furthermore, Apple has released iOS 17.0.2 and iPadOS 17.0.2 updates for all iPhones and iPads.
