The highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition just announced as the first Xbox Series X game to be released with three discs. CD Projekt Red has confirmed this news and clarified the content of the Ultimate Edition, which includes the base Cyberpunk 2077 with its Phantom Liberty expansion. The Xbox Series X version contains three discs with the base game and expansion, making it the only physical version of Phantom Liberty available on any platform. In comparison, the PlayStation 5 box comes with a game disc for Cyberpunk 2077 and a code for the expansion to be redeemed in the PlayStation Store.
The physical edition for consoles marks the first time Cyberpunk 2077 is packaged under current generation banners, marking a shift from the previous PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. However, the Ultimate Edition will not be released for those older consoles. This edition will include all of CD Projekt Red’s previous updates to the game, making it a comprehensive package for the complete Cyberpunk 2077 experience. The developer has since turned the game around from its poor performance on consoles at launch. The Ultimate Edition will launch on December 5, 2023, beating other highly anticipated games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the Xbox Series X platform.
Phantom Liberty, the expansion included in the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, arrived on September 26 and brought significant updates to the game, such as a new perk system, improved AI, and closure to various fan theories. Notably, the update included bizarre additions to the game’s biggest mystery and referenced influential figures such as Elon Musk and the late racing legend Ken Block. CD Projekt Red’s continuous efforts to improve the game have paid off, with 25 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077 sold as of October 2023. The Ultimate Edition stands as a testament to the game’s evolution and provides a complete and immersive experience for players.
