Former President Donald Trump has returned to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. This comes as he turned himself in at the Fulton County jail on multiple charges related to his alleged efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. Trump has faced criminal charges in four separate cases over the last five months. While this is his first and only mugshot, he took the opportunity to make his first post on X since his permanent ban from Twitter in January 2021.
Since his ban, Trump has launched his own social media platform called Truth Social, while Twitter has rebranded as X after being acquired by Elon Musk. In January, it was reported that Trump did not want to renew his exclusivity contract with Truth Social. However, he posted his mugshot on Truth Social earlier in the evening before appearing in a video interview with Tucker Carlson on X. Musk reinstated Trump’s Twitter account based on the results of a poll conducted on the platform, with 51.8 percent of respondents voting in favor.
Before his account was reinstated, Musk also brought back the accounts of The Babylon Bee, Kathy Griffin, and Jordan Peterson. Trump’s return to X comes after being indicted for various charges, including hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels. His campaign quickly released an official t-shirt featuring his real mugshot with the caption “NEVER SURRENDER!” following his booking at the Fulton County jail.
