Google announced that effective October 25, it will cease supporting and releasing software updates for the first and second generation Nest Learning Thermostats. Additionally, the company will stop launching new Nest products in Europe.
Owners of the Nest thermostats released in 2011 and 2012, as well as the version released in Europe in 2014, will no longer receive updates or support in the Nest and Home apps. However, they will still be able to adjust temperature and schedules directly on their devices.
Google stated that this decision allows them to fully invest in future advancements and deliver cutting-edge features on the newest generation of Nest thermostats. The company explained that Europe’s unique heating systems, with their diverse hardware and software requirements, pose challenges in building solutions for various homes. Existing Nest devices will continue to be available in Europe while supplies last.
