Google has renamed its camera app on the Play Store from “Google Camera” to “Pixel Camera” to better reflect its exclusive availability on Pixel devices. The app description has also been updated to include new features such as Portrait, Night Sight, Time Lapse, and Cinematic Blur. The latest version of Pixel Camera is only compatible with Pixel devices running Android 14 and above, and some features may not be available on all devices. The Pixel 8 Pro Exclusive Features, such as 50MP High Res and Pro Controls, are highlighted in the app listing.
This renaming of the camera app follows its introduction at the Google I/O 2023 event. Along with Pixel Camera, Google also introduced other Pixel-branded apps like Pixel Call Assist, Pixel Speech (Recorder), and Pixel Safe (VPN, Car Crash Detection, etc.). The app is continuously updated, with version 9.0 being the latest release for the Pixel Fold, Tablet, and 7 Pro, and version 9.1 being available for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.
The Pixel Camera app is highly regarded for its advanced features and capabilities. By rebranding the app as Pixel Camera, Google reinforces its commitment to improving the photography experience specifically for Pixel device users. This move further solidifies the Pixel brand and enhances the exclusivity of the camera app for Pixel owners. With the latest update and new features, Pixel users can expect even better photo and video capturing capabilities, making the camera app a valuable asset for capturing memorable moments.
