Intel is addressing issues related to its CPUs crashing by releasing a new microcode update, 0x12B, to motherboard manufacturers. This update aims to prevent damage by stopping the CPU from requesting excessive power during idle or light tasks, which can prematurely age the chip.
The company announced that it might take several weeks for motherboard manufacturers to validate and release BIOS updates incorporating this new microcode. However, Intel advises users not to wait for these updates, as previous BIOS versions already include two earlier Intel microcode fixes and new power settings designed to mitigate damage risks.
Intel has yet to provide information on the number of Raptor Lake chips affected by these instability issues or identify specific batches impacted by an earlier oxidation problem. The pursuit of these clarifications is ongoing.
