Kindle Colorsoft Users Report Yellow Bar Issue on E-reader Screens

Date:

Recipients of Amazon’s first color e-reader, the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, have expressed dissatisfaction with a yellow, discolored strip appearing at the bottom of the display. This issue, affecting the $279.99 device, has led to a decline in its star rating on Amazon, with some users noting that customer service representatives have indicated that a solution is being developed.

The discoloration may potentially be resolved through a software update. A screenshot posted online shows a customer service agent seemingly confirming that Amazon is working on a fix. Some users reported that the problem emerged following an initial software update, suggesting a possible connection. Amazon has been contacted for further comment.

The extent of the issue is currently unclear. On Amazon’s website, the Kindle Colorsoft holds a 2.6-star average rating, with numerous reviews—both positive and negative—mentioning the display’s discoloration. While some users find the yellow strip barely noticeable, others consider it distracting.

In a separate review, Andrew Liszewski of The Verge notes that the discoloration appears more prominent in photographs than in person. According to Liszewski, he might not have noticed the issue had it not been raised by other users, as shown in the accompanying images.
