In July, the Fantastic Four will return to theaters for the first time in nearly a decade and will also appear in comics. Marvel has announced a one-shot comic story featuring the MCU version of the First Family, written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by Mark Buckingham. Scheduled for release on July 2, the comic will explore the team’s origin story and their rise to global celebrity status, as they become their universe’s sole superheroes capable of saving Earth from Galactus and the Silver Surfer.
Fans of the MCU might recall tie-in comics that previously set the stage for movies such as “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” While these tie-ins have remained to some degree, recent films like “Black Widow” and “Eternals” have also featured prelude or tie-in comics, with the latter available on Webtoon. Additionally, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” recently concluded a prequel miniseries.
The release of the Fantastic Four comic holds particular significance as Marvel emphasizes its importance. Within the universe, it celebrates the team’s fourth anniversary since their debut, “authorized” by the Future Foundation led by Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby). Utilizing a comic to convey the team’s long-standing presence aims to enrich the forthcoming “Fantastic Four: First Steps” film, set to premiere on July 25.
