NYT Connections Sports Edition: May 5 Hints for Solving Puzzle #224

Date:

Connections: Sports Edition is an adaptation of the popular New York Times word game, aimed at engaging sports enthusiasts. Like the original Connections, this version challenges players to identify "common threads between words." Similar to Wordle, the game resets after midnight daily, increasing in complexity with each new set of words. The article provides tips and hints to assist players.

For those seeking a direct answer to the day’s puzzle, it is available at the end of the article. However, for those wishing to solve it on their own, clues, tips, and strategies are offered.

Connections Sports Edition has been launched in association with The Athletic, a New York Times property focused on sports coverage. It is accessible via web browsers and mobile devices, requiring players to group four words that share a commonality. Each puzzle contains 16 words grouped into four categories, which may encompass anything from book titles to software names. Although multiple words may appear to fit together, only one correct answer exists. Correctly identifying a group removes the words from the board, while incorrect guesses are counted as mistakes. Players are allowed up to four mistakes before the game ends.

Players can rearrange or shuffle the board to aid in spotting connections. Each group is color-coded, with yellow indicating the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, results can be shared on social media.

Hints for the day’s categories are provided:

  • Yellow: Baseball nicknames
  • Green: Heard at the gym
  • Blue: Popular in women’s sports
  • Purple: The first half of these words is the same

Today’s categories:

  • Yellow: MLB teams, familiarly
  • Green: Weightlifting terms
  • Blue: U.S. women’s soccer players
  • Purple: Score___

The article encourages players to not be discouraged if the puzzle is not solved, as new Connections challenges will be available daily with accompanying hints. Additional gaming options, such as Mahjong, Sudoku, and free crosswords, are available on Mashable’s gaming hub. For those interested in other puzzles, solutions for previous Connections are also provided.
