PS5, PS5 Slim, and PS5 Pro Comparison: Which Console to Choose?

Date:

The PlayStation 5 has been noted as one of Sony’s most contentious designs. Over time, opinions have shifted, recognizing its appeal despite its significantly large size. This makes the introduction of the PS5 Slim a welcomed redesign. The soon-to-be-released PS5 Pro promises further enhancements, particularly in terms of hardware upgrades. For those considering which model to choose, some insights are available.

Contrary to previous midcycle upgrades such as the PlayStation 4 Pro, the PS5 Slim is intended more as a replacement rather than an addition to the lineup. As stocks of the original PS5 deplete, the Slim will become the standard model available. The PS5 Slim doesn’t enhance core specifications like the processor or RAM but offers increased storage, expanding from the original model’s 825 GB to 1 TB.

In contrast, the PS5 Pro aligns more closely with expectations for a midcycle refresh. It includes substantial processing enhancements, an impressive 2 TB of internal storage, and a higher price point of $700.

The primary distinction between the PS5 and the PS5 Slim is size. The original PS5 is one of the largest consoles produced, while the PS5 Slim is approximately 30 percent smaller by volume. This reduction of size is significant, providing more space within entertainment units. However, it is noteworthy that even the Slim models are still considerably larger compared to the Xbox Series X/S consoles.

For a visual comparison of the different PS5 models’ sizes, resources are available to help potential buyers understand the spatial differences.
