The Asus Vivobook 14 X, priced at $700, exceeds typical entry-level specifications with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. This makes it a Copilot+ PC capable of utilizing some of Microsoft’s artificial intelligence features. If a less costly configuration were available, the starting price could potentially be closer to $500. This aspect is crucial when evaluating the laptop’s value proposition, as the Vivobook 14 is deemed a more sophisticated $500 laptop rather than an actual mid-range device, offering both substantial benefits and a few notable compromises.
The pricing dynamics of Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite laptops are also noteworthy. Initially priced at $999, many models have seen price reductions. For instance, the HP OmniBook X is now available for $680, providing a faster processor and superior display options.
Externally, the Vivobook 14 does not stand out. It is a basic silver laptop, slightly bulkier and heavier than preferred, weighing over 3 pounds and measuring 0.7 inches in thickness. Its large and plastic bezels allow for more flex in the lid and keyboard deck. While the black model’s appearance is favored over the “Cool Silver,” it is currently unavailable online.
The Vivobook 14 fits the mold of a true budget laptop in 2025. Despite its ordinary exterior, Asus has ensured quality in the keyboard and touchpad. Poor input devices can mar the user experience, regardless of a laptop’s price. Fortunately, the Vivobook 14’s keyboard avoids sloppy actuation or limited travel, delivering a comfortable and precise typing experience with its 1.7 millimeters of key travel, which is more than most laptops provide.
