A new Sonic the Hedgehog game, “Sonic Dream Team,” is set to be released next month, featuring high-speed 3D platforming gameplay with the replayability and discovery of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Developed by Sega’s Hardlight studio, the game has a unique setting set in the tangible dreams of Dr. Eggman and introduces a new character to the Sonic-verse, Cream the Rabbit. The game borrows its inspiration from various influences, with levels inspired by skate parks and the dream architecture of Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
Players will encounter different challenges within the game, such as finding keys to unlock new pathways, reaching goals under a time limit, or tracking down hidden objects. The levels are full of hidden collectibles, and players are encouraged to revisit them multiple times with various characters, each with their own unique abilities. The game is not combat-focused, and enemies are designed to help players maintain momentum while navigating through the levels.
Additionally, the game features an overarching story with voiced in-game cutscenes, introducing an original character named Ariem, who aids Sonic and his friends in understanding the powers of the Reverie, an ancient device with the power to manifest dreams in the real world. “Sonic Dream Team” will be available exclusively on Apple Arcade from Dec. 5, with no clear indication of whether it will come to other platforms in the foreseeable future.
