Spotify is expanding its in-app purchase options on iOS, allowing listeners more opportunities to make purchases directly. After facilitating easier subscription purchases earlier in the month, the streaming service now offers an option for users to buy audiobooks within the app.
Spotify announced that Apple has approved a new app update, which enables U.S. users to view pricing, purchase individual audiobooks, and buy additional “Top Up” hours for audiobook listening beyond the 15 hours included in the Premium subscription each month.
These changes are a result of an ongoing court case between Apple and Epic Games regarding fees for purchases made outside the App Store. Although the current momentum seems favorable for app and service providers, Apple is expected to continue contesting these rulings, despite updating its guidelines to allow external payment options.
