Warner Bros. has announced a new “Block Party Edition” of the popular Minecraft movie, which was already one of the month’s major releases. This singalong version invites attendees to engage with the film’s hit tunes, featuring songs by Jack Black. The screenings, starting this weekend, aim to capitalize on the film’s current popularity among younger audiences, who have particularly enjoyed the “Lava Chicken” song.
According to the press release, viewers will be able to immerse themselves fully: “You know the moments. You know the lines. You love the songs! Now it’s time to get loose, laugh out loud, and belt out those lyrics like a true diamond-tier fan.”
The introduction of this version is likely to help the movie reach the billion-dollar milestone, having already earned $816 million globally as of last weekend. It also allows Warner Bros. to tap into the increasing trend of singalong screenings, following in the footsteps of last year’s success with Wicked in a similar format. With Jack Black’s established musical talent, this initiative seems like a strategic move for the studio.
The Minecraft: Block Party Edition is set to debut in theaters this Friday, May 2, across North America and select international markets.
