Additional Cooling Mattresses
The market offers numerous mattresses that claim to provide cooling benefits. Several options have been tested and found favorable, although they were not as preferred as the top choices.
Casper Snow Hybrid ($2,495): This mattress, aptly named "Snow," is expected to deliver cooling effects and fulfills this expectation effectively. It is a hybrid model, incorporating poly foam, memory foam, and pocketed coils. The design offers targeted support at the hips, waist, and lower back, which aids in relieving pressure, making it especially suitable for back and stomach sleepers. Initially, the mattress appeared slightly misshapen upon unpacking and emitted a faint plasticky odor. However, after two days, it assumed its intended rectangular shape and the odor dissipated.
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid ($1,999): Marketed as a firm mattress, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid meets such expectations. It features patented AirCradle memory foam which provides concentrated cushioning in the center, designed to support the lower back, though the positioning may not suit everyone. Despite its firmness, the cooling properties, which include a triple-phase LuxeCool system and gel-infused memory foam, did not significantly impress.
Wayfair 10.5-Inch Plush Cooling Gel Mattress ($334): Composed of five layers of various memory foams, this hybrid mattress features a memory foam pillow top to relieve pressure points and reduce motion transfer, complemented by a breathable knit cover to enhance cooling. It is compatible with adjustable bases and comes with a 100-night trial and 10-year warranty. Although its cooling effect is less pronounced than other options, it offers a plush feel with cooling gel technology at an affordable price.
Wayfair Sleep 8-Inch Medium Cooling Gel Memory Foam ($204): This budget-friendly medium-firm mattress consists of 8 inches of memory foam. The top layer contains cooling gel, charcoal, and green tea-infused memory foams for freshness and odor absorption, followed by soft comfort foam atop a durable high-density foam base. The top layer’s woven jacquard design enhances breathability and reduces motion transfer. The cooling gels and green tea-infusions work to maintain coolness and prevent odors, providing a surprising performance despite the price.
BedJet 3 ($387): Praised by WIRED reviewer Christopher Null (8/10, WIRED Recommends), the BedJet 3 is a climate-control device that offers an innovative solution. It uses a large blower situated beneath the bed to deliver hot or cool air under the covers, making it suitable for those who find their current mattress comfortable but tend to overheat during sleep.
