WIRED vs. TIRED
WIRED:
- Quick preparation times.
- Meals that generally appeal to a wide audience.
- Grocery options are available with minimal plastic packaging, primarily using paper.
TIRED:
- Limited weekly options for vegans.
- Produce often arrives less fresh and is not consistently organic.
Sunbasket: Overview
Sunbasket was identified as a preferred choice among the vegan meal kits evaluated, aside from Purple Carrot. The service offers both pre-made, heat-and-eat meals and meal kits for preparation, along with grocery items such as fish and bread. Although there are typically only two to three vegan dinner options each week, making it impractical for a full vegan meal plan, it provides a tasty and time-efficient way to supplement meals. During a trial week, meals were flavorful and could be prepared in approximately 30 minutes. Unlike many meal kits, meals that claimed a prep time of 20 minutes adhered to it.
Menu highlights included a black bean and quinoa Buddha bowl with seared zucchini, bell pepper, and caramelized onion for umami flavor, complemented by fresh avocado for creaminess. A cold udon noodle salad with gingered tofu and pickled vegetables offered a delightful crunch and acidity, and a pre-prepped chop suey with shishito peppers, carrots, and mushroom served as a robust stir-fry.
