Top MacBook Discounts for October 2024

Date:

Apple’s current range of MacBook devices features its proprietary M-series chips, offered in various sizes and price points. Recently, Apple discontinued the M1 MacBook Air to introduce the M3 Air. However, several retailers continue to offer the previous model, starting at $649, which is significantly lower than the recent 16-inch MacBook Pro starting at $2,499. Despite the potential high cost of a new MacBook, securing a deal on the new M3 models is relatively straightforward.

Though discounts on Macs are not constant, it is not unusual to find deals offering up to $400 off the retail price. Alternatively, acquiring refurbished models directly from Apple presents another cost-saving strategy without waiting for occasional sales. Apple’s refurbished store also provides a one-year warranty on all products, generally offering 15 to 20 percent savings compared to buying new.

For those aiming to purchase new MacBooks at a reduced cost, various deals are available for MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini models.

MacBook Air Deals

The M1 MacBook Air was Apple’s entry-level laptop until the release of the M3 model led to its discontinuation in Apple’s online and physical stores. Despite this, the M1 version remains available as an affordable alternative at some retailers. It is equipped with an M1 processor and a fanless design, making it ideal for everyday productivity tasks. Walmart currently offers the base model with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB storage capacity for $649, reflecting a $350 discount. Despite being a few years old, the M1 Air remains a strong contender in terms of performance and battery life.

The 13-inch MacBook Air with an M2 chip, introduced in 2022, seems to be phasing out as the availability of the 15-inch version decreases. Although newer M3 versions are available, Amazon and B&H Photo offer the base 13-inch M2 model with an eight-core GPU and 256GB of storage for $899, a $100 discount. A version with 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD is available for $1,049, representing a $150 savings. Surprisingly, Best Buy continues to sell the 15-inch M2 model at a $200 discount, bringing the price to $1,099.

The M2 MacBook Air is lauded for its slim design, improved 1080p webcam, and convenient magnetic charger. While the M2 processor did not revolutionize the market like its predecessor, it remains a competitive performer for all users, including those with creative demands. Despite some drawbacks, such as slower storage in the base configuration and a screen notch, it is recognized as a superior option for travelers since the 12-inch MacBook era.

The introduction of the M3 MacBook Air marked the end of the M1 Air and its wedge design. Available in 13- and 15-inch variants, the M3 models offer slightly faster performance and minor updates such as Wi-Fi 6E and additional Thunderbolt ports for dual external displays. These models maintain 18 hours of battery life and MagSafe charging. Pricing for the 13-inch model starts at $999, following a $100 discount at Amazon and B&H Photo. The 15-inch base model is priced at $1,199, while upgraded versions with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD are recommended for long-term value.

MacBook Pro Deals

During the "Scary Fast" event last year, Apple introduced MacBook Pros with M3 processors, replacing the 13-inch M2 model with a new 14-inch design. The Touch Bar Mac was phased out in favor of these new M3-based models. While rumors suggest the announcement of M4-based MacBook Pro models later this month, discounts on current M3 models are accessible.

The 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro retains the same high-resolution display and 120Hz refresh rate as its more expensive counterparts. While it features ports like MagSafe, an SD card slot, and HDMI, it starts with 8GB of RAM and lacks an additional USB-C/Thunderbolt port found in the M3 Pro and M3 Max models. Currently, the base model with 512GB storage is offered at a $300 discount, available at Amazon and Best Buy for $1,299.

The recent 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros feature spec upgrades with the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, targeting professionals engaged in graphic and video editing. Equipped with MagSafe, USB-C/Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, and an SD card slot, prices start at $1,999 for the 14-inch and $2,499 for the 16-inch models. Shoppers can find the 14-inch Pro with an M3 Pro for $1,699, and the base 16-inch Pro for $1,999, reflecting significant savings.

Mac Mini Deals

The current Mac Mini lineup includes models powered by Apple’s M2 or M2 Pro processors. Despite speculation regarding a redesigned M4-powered Mini, the M2 generation remains an economical high-performance desktop computer. The M2 model starts at $599, offering 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. The M2 Pro version enhances port selection and includes upgraded specifications, such as gigabit ethernet, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage for $1,299. Presently, the base M2 Mini is discounted to $499.99, while the M2 Pro version is available for $1,149, providing buyers with cost-effective desktop performance options.
