Disney enthusiasts with a gothic flair have a reason to rejoice. The much-anticipated anime adaptation of “Twisted Wonderland” is set to premiere in the United States this October, aligning perfectly with the Halloween season, as announced in a recent trailer.
The Disney+ series will explore the Book of Heartslabyul arc, familiar to fans through its previous versions in the Disney game and manga series. The storyline follows Yuuken, who is invited to Night Raven College by a mysterious masked figure.
Night Raven College, a school of dark magic, consists of seven houses, each representing a Disney Villain: Maleficent, Hades, Scar, The Evil Queen, The Queen of Hearts, Jafar, and Ursula. The appealing concept of these villainous houses is highlighted in the trailer, which also features the theme song from the game.
Produced by studios Yumeta Company and Graphinica, the anime is helmed by chief director Takahiro Natori and directed by Shin Katagai, as reported by Crunchyroll. Yoichi Kato serves as the writer, with animation art by Haruka Nakano and Akane Sato, based on Yana Toboso’s original designs. The series has been approved for three seasons on Disney+.
The inclusion of the character Grim, a Cheshire-smiling demon cat, adds to the anticipation. The combination of a darkly fun concept centered around villainous teens and iconic Disney villains is expected to appeal to fans who favor the Dark Academia aesthetic.
“Twisted Wonderland” will be available on Disney+ this October.
