This year’s Summer Game Fest will introduce a new showcase highlighting games that focus on environmental causes and contribute directly to real-world sustainability efforts. The Green Games Showcase, organized by the not-for-profit PlanetPlay, is scheduled for Saturday, June 7 at 4:00 PM ET (1:00 PM PT) and will be broadcast live on YouTube.
According to PlanetPlay, the event will “celebrate game studios that have raised over $100,000 for certified environmental projects worldwide.” Notable projects include Abundant Village, a regenerative garden initiative in South Africa; the WithOneSeed carbon forestry project in Timor-Leste; The Hongera Clean Cookstove project in Kenya; and The Teeny Tiny Truth, which focuses on reducing microplastics in New Zealand’s freshwater systems.
The Green Games Showcase is among several events set to occur between Summer Game Fest Live on Friday and the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday. Additional streams to watch include Day of the Devs, Devolver Direct, Wholesome Direct, the Women-Led Games Showcase, the Latin American Game Showcase, and the Southeast Asian Games Showcase. The festival will conclude with the Death Stranding 2: On the Beach premiere event, offering an early look at the game before its release on June 26.
