Anthony Abner appointed as BMG’s Global General Counsel in new role

Date:

BMG has appointed Anthony (Tony) Abner as its new Global General Counsel, Executive Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs. Abner, who has been with BMG since 2018, will serve as the most senior attorney counseling BMG senior management and managing its global legal teams. He will report directly to BMG CEO Thomas Coesfeld. Abner’s appointment comes one year after his relocation from BMG’s Los Angeles office to its head office in Berlin, where he has been coordinating BMG’s global legal matters.

Before joining BMG, Abner held senior executive posts at PMP Records and Loud Records, as well as senior attorney positions at music law firms. His appointment follows the recent leadership change at BMG, with Thomas Coesfeld taking over as the new CEO. Coesfeld succeeded founding CEO Hartwig Masuch, who left BMG and Bertelsmann at his own request and on mutually agreed terms. In addition to Abner’s appointment, BMG also announced several other senior appointments, including Mathis Wolter as the new Chief Financial Officer and Sebastian Hentzschel as the Chief Operating Officer.

These appointments are part of BMG’s efforts to strengthen its leadership team and drive forward its strategic plans. The company aims to continue its success in the music industry and expand its presence globally. With Abner’s extensive experience and expertise in business and legal affairs, BMG is well-positioned to navigate the complex legal landscape of the music industry and protect its interests. Abner will play a crucial role in advising senior management and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Overall, BMG’s new leadership team sets a strong foundation for the company’s future growth and success.
