Two snow rounds shown on updated map with new snowfall totals.

Today’s storm system is bringing updated snow forecasts to the area, including an expansion of the Winter Weather Advisory zone to now include South Haven, Kalamazoo, Ann Arbor, Jackson, and Detroit along the I-94 corridor. The storm’s track has also shifted south, with the heaviest snow expected to fall between I-96 to M-46, totaling 4 to 8 inches by the end of Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Rapids, the snow is expected to come in two separate rounds, affecting both the morning and afternoon/evening commute times. The Winter Weather Advisory for the I-94 corridor is set to end by 2 p.m., but could be extended if snow continues to persist. Additionally, there is a chance for stronger snow bands due to the instability in the storm system, with the highest snowfall amounts anticipated along and just north of the I-96 corridor.

The NWS in Detroit outlined two distinct periods of snowfall for the day, with the snow becoming centralized along and north of the I-69 corridor in the morning and expanding back over a larger area in the evening before moving east out of Michigan. In southeast Michigan, there may be sleet mixed in with the snow, making for potentially hazardous road conditions throughout the day. Temperatures are expected to remain in the low to mid 30s with a blustery north wind continuing into Saturday.
