After a surge in player numbers over the weekend, the servers for Helldivers 2 are once again being upgraded to accommodate the influx of new players. Arrowhead Studios’ CEO, Johan Pilestedt, took to Twitter to announce that the servers are expected to reach their max capacity of 800,000 concurrent users in just a few hours. This increase in player interest comes after Helldivers 2 surpassed the peak player count of God of War, making it the biggest PlayStation Studios game launch on Steam.
Arrowhead has been diligently addressing the issue of long queue times with a series of patches to increase player capacity. Despite efforts to reduce queue times, the studio boss, Pilestedt, acknowledges that there may still be some light queues. Pilestedt also highlighted the impressive response to the game, noting that a relatively small team of around 100 developers has managed to handle the demand effectively. As a result, the studio has initiated a hiring spree to keep up with the high player demand.
In addition to the server upgrades, Arrowhead is also working on new content for the game. Pilestedt teased on social media that developers are working on “some real cool stuff,” sparking speculation among players about the possibility of mechs and a faction from the original Helldivers game being introduced. This continued support and development from the studio indicate a commitment to providing an engaging experience for players as Helldivers 2 continues to grow in popularity.
