Threads faces user retention issues, yet has potential to catch up to X within 13 words.

Date:

Threads, Instagram’s rival to Twitter, is facing difficulties in retaining users since its launch, according to data from Insider Intelligence. The data indicates that Threads is expected to have significantly fewer monthly active users than Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok by the end of this year. Insider Intelligence forecasts that Threads will have 23.7 million active monthly users in the US, while Facebook is expected to have 177.9 million, Instagram 135.2 million, and TikTok 102.3 million. However, there is a chance for Threads to catch up with Elon Musk’s X.

Interestingly, Insider Intelligence predicts that X will have 56.1 million active monthly users in the US by the end of 2023. Nevertheless, the agency warns that this number may decline rapidly if users continue to abandon the platform. The forecast suggests that X’s monthly active users could drop to 47 million by 2025. In contrast, Threads could potentially reach 30 million users by the same year.

Insider Intelligence’s principal analyst, Jasmine Enberg, highlights that while Threads initially benefited from Twitter’s mistakes, it cannot solely rely on users defecting from X to sustain growth. Enberg also points out that if Musk follows through with his plan to charge users for access to X, it could further alienate its user base.
